On this episode of Whispers of the Soul, we are joined by the lovely Anne-Marie Mayers, founder of the Soul Awakening Academy. Anne-Marie has studied a variety of different spiritual techniques, including Reiki, EFT and hypnotherapy, and she is passionate about helping others turn their entrepreneurial aspirations into reality by offering courses and training including trauma-informed life-coaching, spiritual training, and emotional healing workshops. She is the author of two books including ‘Soulful, Spiritual, Mindful, Masterful’, and ‘Alchemy of the Soul’.

FROM WOUNDED TO WISE

  • Anne-Marie begins by describing her own journey, and speaks of the notion of the Wounded Healer – how we use our pain for purpose. She tells us that it was the birth of her first son which was the catalyst for her to go on her own Wounded Healer journey. She goes on to discuss trauma and the fact that 1 in 5 adults have experienced it in their lives. Anne-Marie tells us her story of early trauma, having been adopted and then transferred into care, and later finding her real family and the journey that took place which left her feeling like a lost soul. Her journey of adoption led her to identify with the notion of the void; something which occurs when the child is taken away from their mother. Babies in fact grieve for their mothers, and Anne-Marie found this pattern continued throughout her life where relationships with her primary caregivers were always broken. She felt unable to form emotional intimacy because she believed it would always end. It was when someone told her that they loved her that she realised something wasn’t right, and this led her to begin her spiritual journey. However, because she didn’t have anyone to guide her she ended up masking and creating a tough persona. When she became a mum, her own mother wound became deeply apparent, and post-natal depression took over, but she managed to ask herself the question: Do I want to pass this trauma on, or do I want to change it? She reminds us that we have the power to change anything in our lives that we know is not good for us.

  • Anne-Marie’s soul awakening came suddenly and while she was in despair; she then knew she had to recreate a version of herself that felt more authentic. This led her to get involved in the mind, body and spirit arena and she did as much learning as she could. Her second child was the catalyst for the creation of the Soul Awakening Academy, when she found herself doing one to one coaching whilst juggling parenthood as a single mother. She describes coming out of the spiritual closet which wasn’t nearly as accepted at the time. However, clients seemed to respond to her methods and were willing to go deeper to find the meaning behind their issues.

  • She reminds us that we all need a spiritual element in our lives, because to surrender to something spiritual is so powerful, and the key to finding out who we really are. Anne-Marie believes that who we are is in fact a product of all the caregivers we have had and information we’ve received from the outside world or other people. She has met so many clients whose lives are mapped out for them, who are burnt out and need to reconnect with their true selves.

  • Sibby talks about the importance of having someone in your life who you can share your spirituality with, and Anne-Marie explains how this is much more commonplace now due to scientific data catching up with spiritual concepts. We have not been in receipt of the correct information in the past, but this is coming to the fore now. Sally brings up the emerging and remembering of who we are, and how this is happening in our inner worlds and in the ancient knowledge that is coming to light.

  • We discuss identity and how much further that goes than just a label. Anne-Marie believes that we are fed unhelpful information which conditions us to believe in a truth that is chosen for us. Sibby points out that the bible has been filtered so many times that for many of us it has lost its connection with something higher. We’ve always looked to the sky for knowledge, but we have been dwelling in the ‘dark side’. We talk about the witch hunt and suppression of natural medicine, when as Anne-Marie points out – our bodies are naturally designed to heal. She recommends we inform ourselves about research and quantum physics which might then open the door to other things. We discuss the fact that everything is made up of waves and particles and that we are only particles when observed. We are observing our reality, but who is observing us? We are so influenced by the external environment including war and global issues as well as planetary activity. Yet we can control our own emotions even if we are being influenced.

  • Sally describes her own healing journey with duality and finding out who she really is by connecting with source. Anne-Marie explains how quantum entanglement means that we all influence each other - we are all connected so basing a world on duality is like walking a tightrope. The more facts we can have about what is really happening and who we are, the better. Sibby emphasises knowing what you feel is true, finding what resonates and being informed – not just being told, but understanding. As humans, Anne-Marie points out, we can ask: who do I want to be? We can upgrade if we choose to and turn the base metal into gold. We are all on a Hero’s Journey to find our true selves, and we can only do this by feeling into the alignment and joy in our lives.

  • Sally draws on the wisdom of Bashar, who says to follow your highest passion, act on it and repeat it without worrying about what it will produce. Stay in that frequency of excitement. If each of us does this as part of the whole, life could change in a mind-blowing way. Anne-Marie points out that we are capable of such darkness and such light and Sibby describes the tipping point which she feels we are facing right now. We all hope that the light will tip the balance this time, after many cycles of the battle between light and dark. Sally says holding the light can be difficult but it’s such an important process. Anne-Marie describes how sometimes things happen that change your life, and tells us about her cousin who came to help care for her child when she was ill and ended up staying, which allowed her to dedicate her energy to building the Soul Awakening Academy, even in the face of people saying she was crazy.

Through her work at the Academy, she has found her joy and sense of purpose and helps others to do the same.
