Coming Back Home To Self
During this podcast episode we discuss what it means to come home to self - how do you know when you are fully present and connected? Are there techniques you can try, or mindset tweaks? Are we not always ‘home’ or do we fragment or split ourselves up, particularly if we’ve experienced trauma for example. Here are some of the key discussion points:
COMING BACK HOME TO SELF
Do you ever have an identity crisis? Are you just components of your name, job, place of residence, age etc or are you more than that? How can you feel fully embodied in your mind-body-spirit?
What role does the ego play in our ideas of what it means to identify with ourselves? Does the ego try to take over? Does it play it safe therefore restricting you from exploring and connecting more with others and the world. Because the ego identifies and records ‘threats’ can it stop you from feeling whole and connected to yourself, your sense of ‘being’.
We also discuss how the ego talk to us - is it a part of our inner critic for example. Learning to quieten the mind is a big part of being able to feel ‘home’ and to feel peaceful in the residence of your mind-body-spirit. Sally talks about integrating your ego and soul to be your whole self. You can’t be fully ‘home’ if you are rejecting parts of what makes up your ‘home’.
Another block to coming home to self could be fear. Sibby talks about our constant chatter, our monkey mind being similar to tuning into Shit FM! If you get caught up in the stories you tell about yourself and part of your story discontinues - does that mean you do too? Do we label ourselves and limit ourselves based on the stories we tell?
Also, how you express yourself is important - we are constantly in a state of flux, where change is inevitable. To be in constant contact with that is about self-expression. It stops you denying aspects of yourself that want to be expressed.
Can nature help you to come home to self? The energy of water for example - we are made up of water, does it give us a sense of homecoming or inner peace?
So some tips include - self-discovery work, what is you and what is not, what resonates and what doesn’t. Connecting in with your eternal part of who you are - your soul, divine essence or divine spark - to push past the ego’s sometimes reduced definition of who you are. Becoming whole - self-acceptance is a big part of coming home to self. Finding your centre that you can physically feel as ‘home’ as well as mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Mindfulness and meditation help for you to step into the ‘being’ state, it’s about a balance between self-discovery and letting yourself just be.
